From 1959 to an Olympic pool
The pool was built in 1959 and hosted the sixth Sandžak Games the same year, which included the first organised fifty-metre swimming competition here. In 1977, ahead of the twenty-fourth Games, it was rebuilt as an Olympic pool measuring 25 by 50 metres — as it still is.
The sports park
The pool sits inside a sports park with playing fields and lawns, on flat ground near the centre. It is one of the city's three green points — with the fortress park and the riverside promenade — and a footpath links it to both.
What a summer at the pool looks like
The pool has changing rooms, open-air showers, loungers, terraces and a restaurant, and the grounds take about 1,500 visitors. Licensed lifeguards watch the water; besides open swimming, the timetable holds recreational slots, a session reserved for women and a swimming school for children.
The timetable is published for each season, so check it with the city sports institution before you set out — we deliberately do not copy it here, because it changes from year to year.
